Scavenger Hunt & The Bund
Warning: Picture heavy post!
The scavenger hunt was pretty interesting. Our group decided to hop on a random bus, get off at a random stop, and just get lost in Shanghai. We ended up going to Wu Jiao Chan and walked around a bunch of department stores before finally deciding to go to the Metro Station to get a piece of our scavenger hunt. After that, we went to People's Square and the financial district of Shanghai to take some pictures. But, it was raining, so we didn't want to stay there long.
We watched an acrobats show after the scavenger hunt, and that was also pretty cool. It was so modern and beautiful. The only thing I had to complain was the "professional" photography that fans could take with the motorcycle team after the show. They failed to mention each picture taken was 100 yuan, so some of my friends and I had to pay for a stupid, crappy picture.
The day after the scavenger hunt, Wendy took Laverne, Abraham and I to Qui Pu Road, where all the cheap shopping is. It was ridiculously hot and stuffy in there. I had a good time bargaining with shopkeepers, even though I still feel like I lost on my end most of the time. One of my goals in Shanghai is to become a better bargainer!
I've posted pictures below. I'll narrate the whole post through captions...
During the scavenger hunt, one of our goals was to bargain with a shopkeeper. Abe here is bargaining for umbrellas
The four of us (me, Michael, Nate, and Abe) with our new umbrellas! Note Abe's pink, frilly umbrella
We took a picture with the front gate security guards... they were pretty excited when we asked to take a picture with them =)
We were supposed to line up in order of time zones... so Chairman Mao is in the first time zone, then Nate, who lives in Texas, then the three of us live in California
Cool looking float of the Olympic mascots and imitation Gumbi...
Crocs are really popular in China, this lady was wearing pink ones. The other day, I saw a guy wearing all white clothes and pink Crocs (it confused me...)
Street food vendor
After the scavenger hunt, we went to an acrobats show. We shopped around before actually watching the show
In front of Blue Frog--a food chain that's pretty popular in China
Before the show...
The Bund
Laverne and I in our rickshaw. It was our first times, and it was pretty much what I expected--scary, dangerous, but fun!
Wendy, Laverne, Abe and I behind a "Shanghai Landmark" (we're close to The Bund)
Awesome Puma ad with Olympic athletes
The Old Town part of The Bund (it was sooo crowded there!)
The Pearl Tower
A view of The Bund (BEAUTIFUL!)
Beautiful background
Dirty water... polluted with trash (and possibly other things)
Ferries going across The Bund
Pretty girls before a night out!
